On June 9 in the year 1963, the actor Johnny Depp was born in Kentucky as John Christopher Depp. At the young age of fifteen, Depp quit school with dreams of becoming a rock musician. Depp was the front man in a few different garage bands, but after a trip to California, he got involved in the world of acting. The characters that Johnny Depp has played over the years makes him such an adaptable and gifted performer. Since today is the actor’s birthday, this is a look into the best well-known and amazing Johnny Depp characters. It is through the art of performing that Depp allows us to escape our own reality and get inside the characters with him.
Edward Scissorhands 1990
This film on Direct TV, directed by Tim Burton, was Johnny Depp’s first movie title role. In the movie, Depp was a young man with scissors in place of hands. Edward Scissorhands was a creation of a scientist, however the man who made him died before completing him. Edward was forced to live all by himself until Peg, played by Diane West, took him into her home. Strangely, the character is incredibly docile and gentle, and he falls into love with Kim, Peg’s daughter, after he moves in with her and her family in a normal suburban neighborhood. This movie was the beginning of Johnny Depp’s dark movies, and he still to this day chooses to be a part of films that will add surprise for his fans. And, he also continues to collaborate with Tim Burton, including some films like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Sweeny Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.
Secret Window 2004
The movie Secret Window is based on the novel by Stephen King and directed by David Koepp. The main character, Mort Rainey is played by Johnny Depp. Mort is a well-known writer in the mystery genre, and after he goes through some serious and upsetting life changes, he is approached by John Shooter. John Shooter claims that Mort stole one of his ideas for a story, and throughout the movie becomes a violent and scary stalker. The movie is a mystery, and Depp portrays the perfect struggling character.
Pirates of the Caribbean (Four films) 2003, 2006, 2007, 2011
In all four of the Pirates of the Caribbean movies, which are all directed by Gore Verbinski, Johnny Depp plays the bizarre and whimsical Jack Sparrow, or “Captain” Jack Sparrow, rather. This character that Depp plays is one that really allows the viewers to climb into a different world with Depp. The character of Jack Sparrow is a true free-spirit, and he uses the other characters in the movie to his advantage, and he is quite manipulative, yet you cannot seem to be mad at him. The portrayal of Jack Sparrow even earned Johnny Depp some awards for greatest performances of all time.
No matter what characters Johnny Depp is playing, he has a way of leaving the Johnny Depp out and full-on becoming the role, which makes him an incredible actor.

Johnny Depp has to be my all time favorite actor. It’s so cool how he can just make any role his very own, yet it’s like you don’t even realize it is him. He’s full of talent.
